Sam Fender has given the entirety of his £25k honor cash to the trust for venues, which operates to protect the Britain's small music venues.

The star was awarded the prize on 16 October as his new release the album was declared the top album of the last 12 months.

He has chosen to donate the funds to the trust, in recognition of the essential function grassroots venues had in his initial steps.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the performances I did around the region, and further afield, when I was beginning," remarked the artist. "These spaces are iconic, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these locations have ceased operations – about one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, well-known musicians such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by adding a modest fee to their admission fees, which benefits local stages.

Sam Fender also participated, raising more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help numerous grassroots venues across the UK.

The money assisted venues that were dealing with imminent closure due to issues arising from water damage, blazes and bereavements, as well as permit problems, court cases and noise complaints.

Other venues obtained financial assistance in modernizing facilities and technical equipment that helped artists and concertgoers.

"The concept that funds from shows in large arenas backs the smaller venues, where it begins for musicians like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has stated.

Fender is far from the only musician to contribute his honor winnings to charitable organizations.

When they won the prize in the year 1996 for their release their work, vocalist Cocker declared that the band would give their winnings to the charity War Child.

In 2002, artist she divided her prize between a few good causes, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I contributed a grand to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked better apparatus," Ms Dynamite shared with a publication.

Two years ago, the band gave their winnings to the community center that developed their band, in addition to other local music groups.

Also winners that year M People gave their winnings to a MS organization after a friend was found to have the disease.

"Receiving the award was ample," said singer Heather Small. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't require the extra, because we had the cake. So our victory affected the lives of others."

Recently, the trust announced it had protected several small stages in south-east England, by placing them under local control.

One venue in Southampton and The Croft in Bristol were purchased under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is funded by a national body and supporters who acquire "shares" in the venues.
